About Sheikh Abdulbasit Abdussamad:
Qari 'Abdul-Basit' Abdus-Samad (1927-1988) (Kurdish Ebdulbasit Ebdussemed), is a famous Egyptian Qari (qari al-Qur'an). Thus, many modern reciters try to imitate his style. The Qari has won three Qira'at world competitions in the early 1970s. 'Abdus-Samad was one of the first huffaz to make recording commercial readings, and the first president of the reciters' Union in Egypt.
In 1950, he came to Cairo where Muslims in many mosques were captivated by his reading. On one occasion, when he read the verses of Surah al-Ahzab, he was asked to read for more than his 10 minutes in the audience, and he continued reading over an hour and a half; listeners are fascinated by the mastery of the field, the tone and rules of tajwid (Qur'an reading).
